Abraham Hassall is the Director of IRIS
Background:
Director Abraham Hassall is a 4-star US Army general. He has a B.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College in Pennsylvania. He served as a special forces officer and toured in Operation Desert Storm. Hassall succeeds Director Southey as IRIS Director. The transition period has not always been smooth owing to Hassall's unorthodox methods as described below.
Profile:
Hassall is a private man. He is ambitious, intellectually brilliant, and is very attentive to detail. As a result of his military training and combat experience, Hassall is a man of action, and is very effective in getting things done. However, as Director of IRIS, he has had to temper his somewhat gung-ho approach to achieving results. Consequently, Hassall can be irascible and at times a little ill-tempered and impatient, as he is forced to act politically rather than militarily.
Nevertheless, Hassall is a man of understanding and compassion, and is able to see the 'big picture', and his peers, co-workers and those under his command trust and respect him, and secretly like him.
Hassall is highly skilled in the art and science of strategy, operations and tactics. He has considerable experience in dealing with conflicts both on the battlefield and in international political situations. Analytically, he is has an encyclopaedic knowledge of strategies used in history by great generals, but also maintains an avid interest in the latest developments in military education and in any fields of study that he believes will help him win. His professional library includes volumes on subjects such as psychology, philosophy, economic game theory, and puzzles of logic, such as the framing of dilemmas.
Although Hassall is a man of character, he has no qualms about using 'impossible' dilemmas in his working relationships with other people in order to force them to pick 'the lesser of two evils' (which of course coincides with the outcome he wants to achieve). Hassall does not see anything wrong in the use of psychological coercion because he has a strong sense of duty, but yet does not fully subscribe to the notion that the end justifies the means. Instead, he believes that the force that he exerts is within morally acceptable limits as he does not (knowingly) infringe the rights or dignity of the individual.
Hassall can therefore be described as having a rather unorthodox approach to leadership and towards the missions themselves. He will employ whatever tactic is necessary in order to get the job done.
Hassall has been married before and has a daughter about the same age as Tania Likamolova. He is in his mid-late fifties.
