Chauncey Dare-Brown is a computer scientist and field agent of IRIS.
Chauncey is from a poor background, but he worked hard and eventually graduated from Christ Church College, Oxford where he gained a reputation as being a funny man, and profitably used his quick wit, silver tongue and affable personality to pay for his tuition by doing stand-up comedy and after dinner speeches.
After university, he worked for a private software company developing computer games based on his area of expertise: artificial intelligence (AI). His original ideas and applications earned him not only a lot of money, allowing him to buy an expensive apartment in Chelsea in London, but a reputation that attracted the attention of the Ministry of Defence, who offered him a job developing security systems based on his AI work.
When IRIS were seeking to develop a world-wide network and database to monitor, analyse and report on activities that threaten world security, Chauncey was recommended by his superiors, who were very impressed with his work and his positive influence on his team members.
Chauncey continues to bring laughter and a look at the lighter side of life in the very serious work he does at the IRIS facilities around the world. Working for IRIS has enabled him to travel widely which he enjoys. But above all, the generous IRIS budget allows him to really develop the ideas he conceived as a student, and he has developed a system for IRIS called ASAP under the supervision of IRIS Science and Technology Director, Ezekiel Thyme.
ASAP is an AI-based system that gathers surveillance data from a world-wide network. It stands for Asymmetric Strategy Analysis Program. ASAP monitors, tracks and examines events around the world looking for threats that are not immediately apparent by standard analysis methods. Using computer-assisted techniques (including AI) and human interpreters, ASAP is able to predict the strategy of an asymmetric attack and formulates a counter-strategy.
Chauncey used ASAP while it was in its experiment stages to track the terrorist known as Fahad, who was indirectly involved in the June 2005 London Underground bombings. Chauncey lost a close friend in that disaster. However, Fahad has so far managed to elude his pursuer.

Chauncey is unattached romantically, but because of his fun-loving, eccentric nature he is always very popular with the girls.
Chauncey's friends include fellow IRIS techie, Elvin Xiu. Chauncey has a love-hate relationship with IRIS operations manager, Genette Zetterling.
Chauncey is very down to earth and stays true to his roots. He consciously retains his distinctive cockney accent.
