Elvin "Elf" Xiu is the Chief Science, Technology and Weapons Analyst at IRIS.
Elvin was born in Hong Kong when his father, a professor of microelectronics at the Univnersity of Electronic Science and Technology of China in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, was working on a commercial project there for two years. Elvin grew up playing with the 'toys' in his father's laboratory, and travelling around the world with his father on various projects to cities in the USA, Australia and the Middle East, among many others, where he learned from the best scientific minds.
After an itinerant education at various international schools, Elf won a scholarship to attend the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA, where he became an avid sports fan, especially of tennis, and with Tania Likamolova being one of his firm favourites.
Elf is the stereotypical technology geek – he likes spending hours (even days) in his own laboratory testing out his theories and ideas, he does not dress in the latest trends. Although he is by nature quite gregarious, articulate and has a good sense of humour, he has relatively few close friends, but counts Chauncey Dare-Brown as one of them.
Being around lots of very talented 'techies' when he was growing up, it was inevitable that Elf would become an inventor and a master 'fixer' of gadgets, as he repeatedly demonstrated in The Goldilocks Game. However, it is not only his brilliance as an engineer that enables his 'team' to win the day, but his willingness to take a risk and to overcome his fear. Elf sticks his neck out by helping Jonah Bull, and also has the courage to take responsibility for breaking the rules.
