With the dramatic increase in mobile computing power – e.g. smart phones, palm-top computers, wireless email machines such as the Blackberry, etc now all having substantial storage power – and the corresponding rise of personal, sensitive or classified information being stored on such gadgets, many security companies are inventing different ways to prevent the information falling into the wrong hands. For instance, some companies are installing biometric readers to allow access only to authorised users. One of the interesting recent inventions has been the use of the 'kill signal'.
The kill signal is simply an instruction sent (by a security company) to a lost or stolen mobile device that tells the device to delete all the files and information on that device.
