The Novodevichy Convent is one of Moscow's most famous cloisters. Originally founded in 1524, it was built as a fortress on part of the Moskva River.
The Convent itself has a rich history. Apart from being a place of worship, it has been used as a place of sanctuary for ladies hiding from Russian tsars. It has also housed a military hospital for Russian army officers as well as an orphanage.
However, the convent has a new use at present: one of more clandestine purposes.
