RISK is a highly secretive organisation about which little is known. IRIS intelligence has compiled the following information:
LINK TO THE FSB
IRIS believes that RISK is a division of the FSB (the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and the successor to the KGB). RISK is an acronym that stands for Raslyedavaiya I Sluzhba Kontrrazvedki: the Investigations and Counter-Intelligence Service.
Strictly speaking, the Investigations and Counter-Intelligence Service should be rendered as 'Sluzhba Kontrrazvedki I Raslyedavanyi' in Russian. However, the letters were changed around to produce the anglicised acronym 'RISK' to enhance the organisation's legendary reputation and to promote its ethos as a special force that undertakes the dangerous or 'risky' operations that others avoid.
AN ELITE OSNAZ UNIT
OSNAZ (OSobogo NAZnacheniya) were special forces troops within the KGB (and its successor the FSB). OSNAZ has always been shrouded in a veil of mystery and much of its activities and membership remains hidden even today. Its anonymity is maintained in part by the fact that OSNAZ has no headquarters (and therefore no records can be found), and the various units are formed within the various directorates as needed and then disappear when their assignments are completed.
RISK appears to operate in a similar way. IRIS believes that RISK's strategy to preserve the anonymity of its members is to 'hide' them in plain sight by giving them normal everyday jobs, and assembling the force at a moment's notice. Using ASAP, IRIS has identified a number of RISK operatives.
