Wendell Krennick is the Deputy Director for Operations for IRIS.
Background
Krennick started his career as a policeman in the Bundesgrenzschutz - the German Federal Border Guard. Developing an interest in counter-terrorism, he joined the GSG 9 (previously called Grenzschutzgruppe 9 - Border Guards, Group 9, an elite group specializing in terrorist situations), where he served on a number of classified missions and achieved a high rank. Krennick then joined the International Police and worked in a number war torn countries providing training to local police forces on stabilization techniques and other strategies.
IRIS career
Krennick joined IRIS because he believed it better suited his abilities and the experience he had gained during his time in the GSG 9. Working for IRIS, Krennick continued to lead operations and to run training courses for agents: notably Agent Jonah Bull was one of his students. Krennick's experience and success in the field during IRIS missions and his outstanding mastery of tactics and use of the element of surprise and deception to outwit and outmanoeuvre an opponent ensured that he was quickly recognised by his superiors. Krennick rapidly climbed the ranks to the position of Deputy Director for Operations.
When Director Southey stepped down as head, Krennick expected to be appointed the Director of IRIS but his friend, Abraham Hassall, was given the position instead. Whilst Krennick possessed a great deal of international experience and tactical ingenuity, senior officials at IRIS believed Hassall had a better strategic vision and would more effectively implement the IRIS objectives within the political framework (as expressed and dictated by the member states).
IRIS still highly values Krennick's contribution and experience, but it believes he makes a great second-in-command, rather than a great leader. As head of operations, Krennick continues to provide hands-on training to IRIS agents. His training and educational program has not only helped IRIS to maintain high standards, but it has saved the lives of its agents.
For example, at a critical but exciting moment in The Goldilocks Game when he was in a life-threatening situation, Bull remembered the words of his mentor, Wendell Krennick, on how he should trap his opponents.
